The term 'Wenchang' refers to the name of a Star. Wenchang was originally the collective name for a group of stars located in the Ursa Major constellation who is in charge of the literary luck of mortals and good fortune. Lighting the Wenchang Lamp is used to request Lord Wenchang for blessing, allowing the worshipper to increase in his wisdom and advancement in studies or career.
